Presenting "Loopy Wizard"

Loopy Wizard

"Loopy Wizard" is the name of the game!

This wizard is spiralling out of control!

Playing a dangerous game that could end badly! (but, with smarts and a bit of luck, you may be victorious!)

Title screen:

The game's like a hectic puzzle in which you use various spells. Often, it would be more apt to say "the spells use you"!

The basics

It's turn based, and you move one square at a time. Monsters move toward you and attack you when nearby. Thankfully, you can shoot a beam from a distance.

A screenshot:

The "Magic Clock"

Notice the 7 circles at the top of the screen. These are your spells, and this is called the "Magic Clock". The clock hand moves once after each turn, and when it points at a spell you MUST use it. Luckily, you can freely decide which monster to target. Or use it on yourself!

What if?

What if there are no monsters though? That's the thing, if you're the only one there, you have no choice but to use the spell on yourself. This could be deadly, so plan carefully.

What can you do? Well, you could make sure to keep some monsters around. Also, if you don't like a spell you can get rid of it by directly dragging it to a target. The spell will be cast one last time before it disappears. Of course, you need to do this before it's too late!

Some minor details

  • On the magic clock there is a small symbol that indicates when the next monster will spawn. This is useful to determine if you should keep some around for using spells on.
  • You can collect mysterious tablets with special powers that can be used once per stage (a stage is 5 floors).
  • Between stages you can keep some of your spells. The further you get, the more you are allowed to keep.
  • There are 10 different monsters. Some drop a certain item, some move differently or have a special ability.
  • You can look up the meaning of spells and more anytime during play.

Compared to "Seven Scrolls"

It's not as "deep". Seven Scrolls allowed for a lot of different combinations of triggers and effects (put together in scrolls). Loopy Wizard is easier to get into, but a bit simpler as a result. Still, each session is different with plenty of crazy moments. It's in fact more hectic because you can be forced to use a spell any turn. Sometimes it feels more like the game is playing you than the other way around (at which point you might decide to get rid of a few spells!). Because it's less deep, I might decide on a slightly lower price point.

Sound

Jake Almond has again provided great sound effects and some eclectic background ambience. I recommend playing with sound on/headphones!

Vids

I'll post a gameplay video sometime in the near future. I hope it will allow you to decide if you like what you see.
